COVID 19 IS DESTROYING PRIZE MONEY IN TENNIS
With no fans allowed to attend pro tennis, I do not see how professional tennis can survive. The revenue decrease is crushing and will put lots of people out of business.
At the Western & Southern Open on 8/12/20, New York City and the ATP TOUR did not allow fans to attend therefore with only TV revenue prize money was decreased exponentially.
ATP TOUR:
2019 Western & Southern Total Financial Commitment: $6,735,690
2020 Western & Southern Total Financial Commitment: $4,674,780
Decrease of 31%.
2019 Western & Southern Winner’s check: $1,114,225
2020 Western & Southern Winner’s check: $285,000
Decrease of 79%.
The players are grateful to play and earn whatever they can doing the sport they love but I cannot help but notice the decrease in prize money.
